Unbeaten Kyle Fox and Anthony Tomlinson meet for Central Area welterweight title
Unbeaten Kyle Fox (6-0) challenges Anthony Tomlinson (9-0) for his Central Area welterweight title on Saturday, May 11 at the Doncaster Dome.
The Stefy Bull Promotions event also features a British super-bantamweight title eliminator contest between southpaw Jason Cunningham (24-6) and Kent’s Josh Kennedy (11-1).
Doncaster’s Fox is a former Yorkshire amateur champion who experienced over 40 fights in the unpaid code even representing his county abroad in European tournaments.
Unbeaten in six pro fights, he landed the British Challenge belt in his last contest over eight-rounds at the North Notts Arena in June 2018 with a landslide points win over Islington’s Jordan Grannum (3-27).
Trained by Michael White at the Fighting Fit Gym in Dinnington and managed by Joe Elfidh, the 25-year-old called for the Central Area title straight after his previous win and got exactly what he wished for.
Standing in his way is the current Central Area champion Tomlinson, 27 from Sheffield, who is unbeaten in nine with four victories coming by way of knockout.
His last two fights ended in fourth and fifth round stoppages, respectively, against good opposition, including former Dutch featherweight titlist Innocent Anyanwu (25-34-3) in his last fight, and unbeaten Jayce Dixon (4-0) to win the Area title in September 2008.
The weigh in took place in a Doncaster gym today – May 10 – with Fox weighing in at 10st 6lbs and the champion coming in just above at 10st 6lb 2oz.
Fox said post-scales, "Tomorrow we go to work and challenge for the Central Area title."
The titleholder added, "All weighed in 10st 6lb 2oz, tomorrow we go to war."
