Bradley Saunders next fight revealed as March 7
Sedgefield’s light-welterweight boxing star Bradley Saunders 11(8)-0-0 has just been added to the Divide & Conquer show featuring Luke Campbell and Tommy Coyle at the Hull Ice Arena live on Sky Sports.
Saunders will be participating in a six round contest at light-welterweight with opponent yet to be confirmed.
Speaking from his training camp in Marbella, the unbeaten boxer commented, “Not sure about it all at the moment, my manager just told me I’m out so I’m happy.”
The former Beijing Olympian continued, “Campbell and Coyle and Rocky all on same the show so it’ll be good a night of boxing in Hull. It’ll be a six rounder but I know nothing else other than what my manager told me.”
The fight will provide Saunders with a tune-up before his biggest test to date on April 4th at the Metro Arena in Newcastle as he challenges Dave Ryan for his Commonwealth honours. The hard-hitting North East star co-headlines the huge April show alongside fellow KO artist Anthony Joshua MBE 10(10)0-0.
Opponent ‘Rocky’ Ryan upset the odds when he snatched the Commonwealth strap away from Tyrone Nurse 30(6)-2-0 in October 2014, taking a majority decision at the First Direct Arena in Leeds while Saunders has become one of the hottest prospects in British boxing, storming his way to 11 straight wins and has his sights set on continuing his meteoric rise onto the world stage in 2015.
The top ten ranked light-welterweight did not exactly set the show on fire on his Matchroom debut in October last year as he laboured to a points win over six rounds against power-punching Latvian Ivan Levickis 16(12)-17(8)-0. The County Durham star took the fight at short notice at a heavier weight division and although landing the jab well and piling on the pressure in his familiar aggressive style it was evident for all to see that Saunders was not entirely fighting fit despite taking all six rounds on the judges’ scorecards.
Leaving nothing to chance, Saunders will use the March date as vital preparation for his biggest test on the professional stage so far. Lightweights Luke Campbell MBE and Tommy Coyle co-headline the show and both face tough examinations before their blockbuster summer showdown can become a reality. Campbell takes on former British super-featherweight champion Gary Sykes in a Yorkshire derby in his tenth fight, while Coyle faces former British lightweight champion Martin Gethin.
The Hull pair fuelled the fire for a huge fight for the city back in October when Coyle landed a stunning second round KO of Australian legend Michael Katsidis after Campbell had smartly seen off Coyle’s 2014 Fight of the Year foe Daniel Brizuela with a fifth round stoppage in his first ten round contest.
A quality supporting cast joins Saunders on the night as exciting Birmingham youngster Sam Eggington fights for his first major title on the bill, up against Shayne Singleton for the WBC International welterweight strap.
Liverpool’s unbeaten super-middleweight Rocky Fielding makes his eagerly anticipated return to the ring after hand surgery following his fifth round win over Noe Gonzalez in July. Unbeaten local lad Tom Knight 5(1)-0-0 steps up to face former English champion Erick Ochieng 16(4)-4-0 in a welterweight contest.
Another Hull resident Nathon Smith 5(1)-0-1 will also appear on the line-up in what will be his second fight of the year, just one week apart. The 24-year-old welterweight will fight first on Friday 27th February on David Coldwell’s ‘Blaze of Glory’ event. More fights to be announced shortly.
