Nick Webb is free to fight on anyone's show now
Undefeated heavyweight prospect, Nick Webb (3-0) is looking forward to an active 2016 after being released from Frank Warren’s Queensberry Promotions by mutual consent.
The 28-year-old from Chertsey said, “I didn’t get enough fights, basically. We only got given two fights which was one in March and one in May and the contract stated six fights.”
A former ABA Novices winner and Elite finalist, ‘Wild Webb’ has finished all three of his ring rivals in the first round and is managed by former heavyweight world title challenger, Scott Welch in his Brighton gym. He continued to say, “We planned to have six fights under Frank Warren and two other fights elsewhere.
“I debuted back in March so I would have liked a lot more. I wanted to fight at the end of this year but it just wasn’t to be.
“I couldn’t have done anything more that was asked of me, I had three fights and three KO’s!”
Webb has stopped all three opponents inside two minutes, one of those victims being Hrvoje Kisicek, who he dispatched in 56 seconds on his pro debut – four times quicker than Anthony Joshua managed in November 2013.
“I’m gonna’ aim to reach eight fights unbeaten then go for the Southern Area title,” he aspired, “It’s the best thing for me being a free agent because I can go anywhere and fight here in the UK or in Germany, then maybe America.”
The heavyweight scene in the UK is thriving once again with the emergence of the new heavyweight World champion, Tyson Fury after knocking a long-reigning Wladimir Klitschko off his perch on November 28th in Dusseldorf, Germany.
Promoters will be on the lookout for new talent in boxing’s most exciting and talked about division, which received an even further boost in popularity on December 12th due to the entertaining scrap between rivals Dillian Whyte and Anthony Joshua in London’s packed O2 Arena.
“I’d definitely sign with a top promoter again if the contract is right but it’s down to my manager, Scott Welch to decide,” Webb said.
Despite the arguably inactive debut year, Webb will begin 2016 with a fight on February 12th in Brighton at the Hilton Metropole, the same setting as his previous bout on October 2nd where he made short work of Hungarian opponent, Ferenc Zsalek (15-47-6), disposing of him in just 79 seconds.
“February 12th is the next fight,” Webb confirmed. “I’ve no idea of opponent yet but it’ll be my last four-rounder before I step up.”
Of his previous outing in the Sussex seaside town, the first professional appearance away from the capital, Webb reflected, “It was good, all my family and friends were there. I train in Brighton so a lot of people came out in support.
“I’d like to say thanks to everyone, all my friends and family for the support and to Scott Welch and my sponsors,” he concluded.
