Unbeaten middleweight, Tommy Langford will provide the chief support to the Stephen Ormond v Terry Flanagan lightweight title clash for the WBO European belt on St. Valentine’s Day at the Wolverhampton Civic Hall. Langford 11(2)-0-0, originally from Devon now residing in Birmingham, will fight in the first ten rounder of his career with opponent set to be announced later in the week. The 25-year-old Frank Warren fighter expressed confidence at the prospect of competing in the longer rounds, “I’m very excited, to be honest; personally, the longer the fight – the better I’ll be. I expect the latter rounds to be my best. I’m always in good shape and known for being very fit. One of main assets as fighter is my engine and the experience in sparring shows that.” The opponent, still being discussed, is due to represent a step up for the former England amateur, “It’s going to be a step up to what I’ve been competing against, there’s been a few names thrown into the pot, some of them British and some of them foreign, but whoever it is, they’ll be tough with a good record and I’ll have to box well to get the win,” stated Langford. After reaching 11 fights unbeaten and claiming every single round along the way, Langford has established an excellent base to begin the arduous climb up the rung to title contention. The 25-year-old’s most recent win against Gary Boulden 7-16(3)-2 last October marked his first two years in the professional circuit since his debut appearance in September 2012. Tommy Langford Gary Boulden After easing through the first two victories in the paid ranks at four rounds, Langford went straight into six round contests stopping two of his opponents on the way in Raimonds Sniedze 10(7)-24(5)-2 in May 2013 and Nicky Jenman 10(1)-8(5)-1 in August 2014. The young middleweight is coached by respected trainer Tom Chaney at Hall Green ABC who guided top talent Frankie Gavin through a highly decorated amateur career to winning the British and Commonwealth welterweight titles. A former England international himself, Langford left the amateurs with an outstanding record of 86 wins from 106 fights, collecting many titles and scalping Olympians, Callum Smith and Anthony Fowler along the journey. Kicking off the 2015 campaign with his first ten round contest has excited the middleweight prospect but with the show only being confirmed one month before fight night has caused its problems, “It’s been slightly frustrating at times with not knowing but I’ve stayed focused and kept myself fit over the Christmas period to be in the best shape that I can be,” Langford concluded. Stephen Ormond v Terry Flanagan Headlining the show, Irishman Ormond 17(8)-1-0 defends his WBO European title against Manchester's Flanagan 26(10)0-0 with the fight also sanctioned as an eliminator for Terence Crawford’s WBO World title on Saturday 14th February and the premier lightweights claim that there will be no love lost between them when they finally meet. Originally, the warring pair were set to lock horns in December at Hillsborough Leisure Centre but the reigning champion was forced to withdraw due to a viral infection. Flanagan was handed a last minute stand in opponent in Danny Little 3-4(1)-1 and presented the 29-year-old from Driffield with his first ever stoppage of his two year professional career just one minute into the fifth round. Southpaw, Flanagan moved up to 26 wins whilst notching his KO count up to double figures. The all-action showdown will headline a talent-packed card promoted by Frank Warren in association with P.J Rowson. The highly anticipated bill will also feature outstanding Chelmsley Wood lightweight, Joe Costello; Corby cruiserweight prospect, Simon Barclay; rising Swansea bantamweight, Jay Harris; the return of Redditch's hard-hitting middleweight, Andrew Robinson; unbeaten Tipton light-heavyweight, Ricky Summers and Bloxwich middleweight prospect, Dan Breeze.
