Lerrone Richards made mandatory to British title
Unbeaten southpaw Lerrone Richards (12-0) has made mandatory challenger to Zach Parker's (17-0) British super-middleweight title.
The BBBofC installed the 26-year-old Londoner in the mandatory position after he overcame former British and Commonwealth middleweight champion Tommy Langford (21-4) at The SSE Arena on April 27.
Purse bids have been called for Wednesday, June 12, with the contest ordered to take place before the end of September 2019.
The 24-year-old champion from Derbyshire, Parker, won the vacant strap in November last year and became the first to inflict a loss on English super-middleweight champion Darryll Williams (17-1) record. The 12-round contest was so closley contested that it split the judges at ringside. Despite calls for a rematch, neither fighter has fought since.
Richards, trained by Alan Smith and Eddie Lamm at the iBox Gym in Bromley, hadn't fought for an entire year but showed no signs of ring rust as he outpointed a top-level fighter in Langford last month at Wembley. The slick southpaw has often struggled to find willing opponents due to his awkward style, so will be pleased to have landed the mandatory spot for the Lonsdale belt.
