Thomas Kindon headlines Surrey show
On July 16th at the Tolworth Recreation Centre in Surrey, bantamweight prospect – Thomas Kindon (8-0) will be vying for the International Challenge belt, looking to add to his British Challenge honours that he won in his previous fight on April 1st at the same venue.
Based at Guildford City Gym, the unbeaten boxer will also be looking to extend his winning streak and put on a display for his increasing fan base when he tops the bill on the first show that Tyneside promoter Steve Wraith has put on in the south of England.
Opponent for the ‘Pocket Rocket’ is yet to be confirmed, most likely to be an overseas challenger.
It was back in April this year when the 21-year-old, originally from Leeds, claimed his first belt in the pro ranks – the British Challenge bantamweight belt – in what was also his first eight-rounder, and now plans to add more silverware to his collection, which also includes six national amateur trophies.
He said, “My next fight will be 16th July at Tolworth again. It’s for the International version of the Challenge belt that I won, so I’m top of the bill again.”
Kindon moved up to 8-0 with the previous points victory over Georgian challenger – Mikheil Soloninkini (6-18-1) on April 1st to edge closer to the top-10 in the talent-packed 118-pound division, currently topped by IBF World champion – Lee Haskins. “It was a good night, the support was great,” he beamed. “I think it was over 120 tickets that I sold and there’s a few more coming to my next one.
“I hope I get the same amazing support on July 16th; there might be a few local lads from my gym on the show, too, hopefully. It’d be great if as many from around Surrey as possible could come and support the local boxers.” Following the briefest of breaks, the ‘Pocket Rocket’, guided by coach Johnny Edwards and father Kazy, is back in training for his next date, he confirmed, “I’ve had around three weeks off because I was in the gym solid for three months leading up to my last fight.
“So I’ve been back in for a couple of weeks but there were a few problems so only got started properly last week.” He concluded, “We’ve got one belt now so I’d like to continue to build on that and get another one. I’d like a Southern Area title but I’ll just see what happens.”
The rest of the card confirmed so far will see welterweight Adam Battle (8-2) from Aldershot gracing the square ring for the first time in 18 months following his previous loss to the newly-crowned English champion – Johnny Garton.
It was back in December 2014 when the pair clashed for the vacant Southern Area welterweight crown, with Garton coming away with the belt following an eighth round stoppage. The 29-year-old will be looking for a convincing win to kick-start his promising career again.
Local lad, Jamie Carley makes his debut on the night.
