Irish lightweight Katie Taylor (7-0) beats Anahi Esther Sánchez (17-3) to win WBA title
2012 Olympic champion takes unanimous verdict against Argentinian opponent in the most important fight of her career.
Katie Taylor, the most decorated boxer in the history of women’s boxing, claimed the WBA lightweight title with a unanimous points win over Argentinian Anahi Esther Sánchez at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium.
In just her seventh pro contest, the 31-year-old Dubliner decked the former two-weight champion in the second-round with a left hook to the ribs.
All three ringside judges gave it to the unbeaten Taylor at scores of 99-90 in what was an absorbing but scrappy fight on the undercard of Anthony Joshua’s defence of his world heavyweight title against the Frenchman Carlos Takam.
