Unbeaten Jordan Gill heading for October showdown with Commonwealth featherweight champion Ryan Doyle
Jordan Gill (21-0) added to his flawless statistics in Wales last week when he barely broke sweat dispatching of David Berna in the opening round. Talk of a potential clash with Commonwealth champion, Ryan Doyle (17-2-1), has circled for weeks and with that fight now confirmed for The Copperbox Arena in London on October 27th, Dave Coldwell, trainer of Gill, believes the time is right for his charge to compete in fights of such manner.
“Jordan is ready for big fights now and if that means Ryan Doyle then so be it,” said Coldwell from Dubai as he prepares Gavin McDonnell for his upcoming world title defence against Daniel Roman. “The work we’ve put in since he came to me is something else and I’m fully confident that he’s going to get the rewards that his talent and hard work deserve. He’s given me everything I’ve asked for in the gym and the improvements are clear to see. He’s getting more exposure via Sky TV and everything is now in place for him to go out there and make a name for himself.”
With the fight against Doyle finally confirmed, Coldwell is relishing the opportunity to take Gill to the next level against a familiar face. “Ryan is someone I know well from my days as a promoter doing shows up in Manchester. He was a pleasure to deal with and it’s going to be strange seeing our paths cross again, but that’s boxing. Ryan performed brilliantly to win the Commonwealth belt and now I have to make sure I get Jordan in the shape he needs to be to take it from him.”
