JE Boxing is the only professional boxing platform in Kent, owned by ‘The Moroccan Machine’ – Joe Elfidh.
As a fighter, Joe was a two-weight Central Area title contender, defeated a future England champion, and shared the ring with British, Commonwealth and World champions.
As a promoter, he is single-handedly bringing big-time boxing back to The Garden of England and his hometown of Worksop.
Welcome to his weekly column – exclusive to BBN.
Luke Gibbo
I’m really pleased that my latest signing from Kent Luke Gibbo was awarded his professional boxing license from the BBBofC this week.
He’s an experienced ex-England International that had over 80 fights in the amateurs.
His debut will be February 25th at Mote Park in Maidstone.
He’s a nice lad and has a massive following. He’s a manager of The Gallery Nightclub in Maidstone so will sell a lot of tickets to the show.
He’s 27-years-old and could have turned over five years ago but he’ll make up for lost time. He’s part of Ray Askew’s thriving Invicta Gym in Sheerness so he’s in great hands.
People don’t realise how long Ray has been about in boxing. He trained me throughout my pro career and was in the corner for Gavin Tait to win a Southern Area title.
I’ve got Kyle Fox from Yorkshire up in front of the Board for his license next so I’ll report back next week on how he gets on.
Grant Dennis
Looking at getting a voluntary defence of Grant’s Southern Area middleweight title next year and then we’ll be sitting down to work out his next step after that, which should be the English title.
Lee Markham has got that title currently, and Grant and he are good mates that spar together a lot.
Grant won his Southern Area title from Nicky Jenman – a far more experienced, seasoned professional, but Grant really stepped up on the night to rip his belt from him in front of his home crowd in Brighton.
Grant is definitely at English title level already, 2017 should be an exciting year for him.
Away Days
I’ve got my boxer Georgie Wright out this weekend on an away show against Jamie Carley (2-0) in Tolworth, Surrey. It’s a Joey Pyle promoted show and his opponent is known as ‘Mr Excitement’ but Georgie’s going there to cause an upset.
Darren Snow – the Road Warrior from Dinnington – will be out next weekend in Manchester and possibly Ricky Leach will be out also.
I prefer my home shows to travelling away but not every boxer is a ticket-seller so it’s just how boxing works.
Kent Shows in 2017
I’ve got a show on February 4th in Sheerness which will only be a small event with a 500-capacity for the Sheerness boxers – Oli Edwards, Dave Jones and Tom Dallas.
Then, we’ll be back in Maidstone for February 25th next year! That will be a big show with lots of fights on the bill – Chelmsford’s southpaw Tom McGinley (2-1-1); Middlesex’s super-lightweight Elvis Makoda (3-1-2); unbeaten super-featherweight Chris Matthews (5-0); Chatham southpaw Charlie Shane (3-0); ‘The Medway Mauler’ Louis Greene (5-0); and debutants Owen Stone and Luke Gibbo.
The shows are building all of the time so this is set to be another sell-out with some top talent on display.
