JE Promotions have agreed to air their next show in Kent exclusively on brand new freeview channel KMTV.
KMTV will screen the talent-packed 'Judgement Day' event scheduled for October 7th at Mote Park in Maidstone.
The channel officially launched on July 10th and is a unique partnership between KM Media Group and the University of Kent.
The KM editorial team consists of close to 100 journalists across the county of Kent while the university contains state-of-the-art facilities and television expertise.
KMTV broadcasts from a purpose-built studio at the university’s Medway campus with programmes published online and televised on freeview channels 7 and Virgin 159.
The new channel has been awarded a terrestrial television licence by Ofcom for the Maidstone and Tonbridge area.
JE Promotions is headed by former professional boxer Joe Elfidh, known as ‘The Moroccan Machine’. His small hall shows in Maidstone have steadily built in popularity and his stable of talented boxers are receiving more recognition as they build up the wins on their records, as well as collecting titles – Chatham’s Grant Dennis won the Southern Area middleweight title in just seventh fight and is knocking on the door for the English title next.
Elfidh commented, “I’ve been into the studio already and the facilities are great. I was there for the launch on July 10th, there were a few of us on the sofa talking about sport in Kent.
“The first filming will be the next show on October 7th at Mote Park in Maidstone. It won’t be televised live for the first time, it will played out shortly after.
“I’ve been building up my fighters and they are all getting bigger fan bases and growing in stature with each fight. These are lads that are just starting out on the small hall circuit and, with the right guidance, could go on to win titles and have big careers.
“Grant Dennis has won the Southern Area title in the champion’s back yard in just his seventh fight; Chatham’s Charlie Shane is unbeaten in four and fights eight-rounds for the Challenge belt next; heavyweight Dave Jones has won the International Challenge Belt and will be ready for the Southern Area title next; Maidstone’s Chris Matthews is seven fights undefeated and improving all the time, and still only 22; Luke Gibb was a Team GB amateur and will be fast-tracked to titles; Sidcup’s Martin Hillman is always in exciting fights and there’s a brand new heavyweight called Kurt Johnson making his debut on the night who is a special talent.
“Boxing in Kent is booming and showcasing it to a larger audience on TV is only going to give it the credit it deserves and hopefully increase the audience further.”
The opening show for KMTV is titled ‘Judgement Day’ and features JE Promotions’ current crop of Kent talent, including unbeaten heavyweight Dave Jones, ex-England international Luke Gibb, Martin Hillman back from his Southern Area title bid and Southern Area middleweight champion Grant Dennis.
Tickets start from just £35, doors open at 5:30pm with the boxing starting from 7pm.
