Lloyd Ellett secures win no.20
Brighton boxer ‘Lightning Bolt’ Lloyd Ellett moved up to 20-1 by defeating Adam Grabiec on points in his 21st professional contest on April 1st at Tolworth Recreation Centre on a Hunt Promotions show.
The Sussex super-welterweight took all six rounds at 60-54 over the Polish boxer, who entered the contest off the back of a first round stoppage win in November last year.
The victor commented post-fight, “I did really well and I felt a lot better in this fight. The guy hadn’t been stopped before and I definitely had him hurt on a few occasions. I actually hurt my hand in the second round after I landed a big right hand and he was visibly hurt but his head was made of stone.”
The 29-year-old Sussex fighter recently switched camps from Alan Smith’s iBox Gym to manager Scott Welch’s Brighton-based gym, which is also home to unbeaten heavyweight prospect, Nick Webb and Southern Area middleweight champion, Nick Jenman.
“We’ve only had four weeks back working together but the stuff we have been working on came off during the fight. I was throwing more combos and power punches,” he said.
Welch, a former British and Commonwealth champion, has managed Ellett since the start of his pro career and their relationship in the sport extends back to his early amateur days.
“I had Scott in the corner for my first two pro fights so it’s been a while but it was back to normal really. Having him and Anthony Brown doing my corner again was great as they did my corner all the way through the amateurs.” Ellett has now reached a respectable record of 20-1 and edges closer to major title fights in the near future. He weighed in at 10st 10lbs for last weekend’s fight and has campaigned at super-welterweight for his entire four-and-a-half year long career but is clearly comfortable at making the welterweight limit also.
He said of his future plans, “We need to sit down and work it out but I’m looking for the big fights next whether it’s at welter or super-welterweight.”
Ellett’s only blemish on his respectable record came in October last year at the hands of two-time Southern Area champion, Ryan Toms (14-13-2) at the Brighton Metropole, a result which still aggravates him six months on.
“I definitely want to avenge my only loss to Ryan Toms when it makes sense,” Ellett firmly specified. “There’s a show in Brighton in June and I really want to put the record straight. If it’s not next, then it’ll only be because I’ve had a bigger and better offer.”
Headlining fight on the Hunt Promotions bill saw super-bantamweight prospect, Thomas Kindon (8-0) collect the British Challenge bantamweight belt with a points win over Georgian, Mikheil Soloninkini (6-17-1).
The 21-year-old Guildford City Gym star known as the ‘Pocket Rocket’, a six-time national amateur champion, is now looking to push on to major title fights in the talent-laden 122lbs division.
