Chantelle Cameron has to get past Anisha Basheel before Katie Taylor fight can become possible
Undefeated Chantelle Cameron is solely focused on her WBC final eliminator with Anisha Basheel amid the clamour over her possible clash with Katie Taylor.
The vicious ‘Il Capo’ (10-0, 7 KOs) heads for the #MTKFightNight in Brentwood on July 20 to face heavy-handed Basheel, who is on a run of eight straight stoppage wins.
With the dangerous Malawi puncher in front of her and the winner earning a mandatory shot at WBC, IBF, WBO and WBA world lightweight champion Taylor, Cameron knows she can’t afford to get ahead of herself.
Cameron said: “There’s obviously been a lot of hype about myself fighting Katie and that’s the fight I want down the line but it’s Basheel who’s in my way right now. I try to ignore anything else.
“Some people are talking too much about the Taylor fight. I’ve got Basheel first and me against Katie doesn’t happen unless I win this fight. I’ve got a real job on my hands in Basheel first.
“Of course, the rise of women’s boxing with unification fights like Taylor vs. Delfine Persoon and Claressa Shields vs. Christina Hammer is great.
“Katie’s now got all the belts in my division and I want them but if I don’t get through Basheel in Brentwood then that fight doesn’t happen.”
Joining Cameron vs. Basheel on a fantastic night of boxing is a WBO European welterweight title clash between Michael McKinson and Evgeny Pavko, a Southern Area welterweight showdown between Shaquille Day and Louis Adolphe plus a stacked undercard.
