Carlos Araujo tells Tyrone McCullagh he's going to knock him out
Menacing Mexican Carlos Araujo has vowed to stop fleet-footed Tyrone McCullagh in his tracks at London’s York Hall on Friday night.
The pair clash in the #GoldenContract quarter-finals – live on Sky Sports in the UK in association with Matchroom and on ESPN+ in the US in association with Top Rank – after undefeated McCullagh (13-0, 6 KOs) and Araujo (15-1, 12 KOs) were pitted together in Tuesday’s draw.
While McCullagh catching attention in a panda shirt and joked with the scrum of press in attendance, Araujo came sharp-suited and with stern words of caution for his foe.
Araujo said: “I know McCullagh will start running away from me and trying to use all of the ring but he can only do that for so long.
“If he stops in front of me – whether that’s in the first round or the last – then I’m going to knock him out and he’s not going to get up. I’m sure about it.
“I respect all the Irish people. I know McCullagh is a good fighter but remember – we are Mexicans and much is expected of us.
“When it comes to the Mexican style, obviously the Mexicans are the best in the world at it and on Friday night, McCullagh is in with one of the best.”
Joining McCullagh vs. Araujo on a huge night at the home of British boxing are other quarter-final match-ups in Leigh Woods vs. Davey Oliver Joyce, Hairon Socarras vs. Ryan Walsh and Jazza Dickens vs. Carlos Ramos.
A stacked undercard features the #GoldenContract reserve clash between Jacob Robinson and Razaq Najib plus Randal Barlow, Mitchell Frearson, George Fox, Sam Gilley and more.
