Callum Smith defeats George Groves in seven rounds

Callum Smith (25-0) stopped George Groves (28-4) in the seventh-round of their historic World Boxing Super Series super-middleweight final in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on September 28.

A blisteringly fast catch left hook stunned the Londoner causing him to backpedal to the corner while the Liverpudlian piled on the pressure with uppercuts and a rib-rippling right hook to the body before referee Luis Pabon issued an eight-count as the ‘Saint’ eventually dropped to his knees. A simple shake of the head was enough for the contest to be stopped as ‘Mundo’ scored his 18th career stoppage win.

Smith adds Groves’ WBA ‘Super’ world title to his WBC Diamond belt and becomes the second boxer in history to lift the coveted Ali Trophy behind undisputed cruiserweight champion Oleksandr Usyk.
