Boxing tonight is broadcast by Dave as Olympic silver medallist Joe Joyce makes his pro debut vs Ian Lewison
Dave re-enter the combat arena as the terrestrial channel broadcasts the professional heavyweight debut of Olympic silver medallist Joe Joyce this evening (Friday, October 20). The boxing tonight from Indigo at the O2 in London is the first show in Dave's three-year deal with promoter Hayemaker Ringstar.
Joyce takes on a refreshingly tough test for his pro bow, meeting tough former British title challenger Ian Lewison, 12-3-1 (8), himself no slouch as an amateur. Lewison has experienced an up-and-down pro career, with undoubted strength, ability and endurance occasionally being undermined by poor conditioning.
This was apparent when he lost to Dillian Whyte – no shame there – on a 10th-round retirement a year ago in what was his last fight. That said, Lewison has upset the applecart before, stopping undefeated prospects in Dorian Darch and China's Zhiyu Wu, as well as one-time contender Timo Hoffman and a still-dangerous Tom Dallas.
The Brixton man will come with ambitious, while Joyce, from Putney, is not only meeting a good fighter to kick off his paid career but is also preparing to go 10 rounds, the scheduled duration of the contest.
Also on the boxing tonight, touted Scottish amateur Willy Hutchinson and MMA fighter Michael Page make their boxing debuts. Both should look good against undemanding opposition, while several of Goodwin Promotions' stable will feature on the undercard.
Coverage begins at 9pm on Dave.
