It’s his first contest in almost two years and his first in the UK since 2013, but Amir Khan next fight, against tough Canadian clubfighter of Italian descent, Phil Lo Greco, 28-3-1 (15), kicks off a three-fight deal with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom promotional outfit.
Khan’s preparations have been disrupted by the illness of trusted trainer Virgil Hunter but the esteemed Joe Goossen has been drafted in as a replacement. Khan is, of course, a former Olympic silver medallist (at 17) and unified super-lightweight champion who has not fought since suffering a highlight-reel KO defeat to Canelo Alvarez up at middleweight. The speedy 31-4 (19) Bolton man will be eager to impress.
The bout takes place on Saturday April 21
Echo Arena, Liverpool
12 three-minute rounds at welterweight.
Coverage begins on Sky Sports Action at 7.00pm. The undercard begins on Sky Sports’ Facebook page at 6.00pm.
The Commonwealth lightweight title clash between Birkenhead holder Sean “Masher” Dodd and Hull challenger Tommy “Boom Boom” Coyle should be every bit as action-packed as their monikers suggest.
Local prospects Natasha Jonas and Antony Fowler also appear, as does Conor Benn and the more experienced Paul Butler (a former world champion) and ex-Euro titlist Sam Eggington.
