Hoddesdon lightweight Alfie Price kicks off pro career with a shutout points win in Kings Cross on March 10
Second time around, having weighed in on March 2nd for his original pro debut date, Alfie Price (1-0) got his paid career off to a flying start with a points win over Liam Richards (12-46) at the Camden Centre on March 10 on a British Warriors Boxing event.
Originally due to makes his pro bow on Frank Warren’s Box Academy event at the York Hall on the first weekend in March, Price was left bitterly disappointed when his opponent failed to show.
The 23-year-old had already weighed in and was refuelling in Nandos with his team when he got the call confirming his scheduled fight was cancelled.
Manager Mo Prior managed to get the prospect straight back out the very following weekend on his packed ‘The Reckoning’ show with Southern Area welterweight champion Louis “The Medway Mauler” headlining in the first defence of his Area strap.
Price was matched with ‘Rocco’, an English title contender only stopped once in 57 fights.
Price, in the red corner, started the fight in his usual casual stance with his hands hung low by his hips. He needed no time warming up or finding his range and immediately started throwing punches in bunches.
He was so busy with his shots in the opening round that his durable opponent didn’t manage to throw anything back until the final seconds.
With Sab Leo and Eddie Lamb in his corner, Price was sharp and flashy and unloaded combinations from the very first minute to the last.
The stylish southpaw slowed the pace down slightly in the second segment, opting to box on the backfoot and allowing his counterpart to come forward but still unleashed flashy combos and switched stances seamlessly.
The lightweight prospect, a former seven-time national amateur champion, used the rounds to experiment and gain experience against his robust ring opponent.
The scores were aloud as 40-36 to Price as he got off the mark in his paid career.
