Saturday night’s alright for fighting as Joe Elfidh and Scott Calow showcase their Yorkshire talent at the North Notts Arena
JE Promotions, run by Joe Elfidh, in association with Scott Calow Boxing present a seven-fight card this Saturday at the North Notts Arena in Worksop, featuring four unbeaten prospects and three exciting debutants.
Rising star Kyle Fox (3-0) will be topping the bill as he aims to extend his unbeaten run against veteran William Warburton (24-124-9).
The Armthorpe super-welterweight will need to be wary of ‘Warby’ in the away corner, as the last win on his record came against another 3-0 prospect just a few weeks back in September.
The 30-year-old from Atherton has only been stopped twice in 157 bouts against Scott Woolford in just his sixth professional bout and by Chris Johnson in their Central Area welterweight title fight in 2010.
Despite his losing record, Warburton’s two-dozen victories means he is only sitting a few spaces behind Fox in the British rankings.
The 23-year-old former Yorkshire amateur boxing champion will need to be at his best to get through his next opponent, but he will be supported well by his vocal army of fans on the other side of the ropes.
Derby’s 19-year-old lightweight Sahib ‘Saby’ Mann (3-0) will also feature high up on the bill as another popular unbeaten local fighter.
The lightweight tackles seasoned pro Ibrar Riyaz (6-129-4) in what will be his 140th bout.
The 32-year-old in the away corner will also pose a threat as he upset home fighter Darren ‘The Terminator’ Townley only last July.
There will be heavyweight action on the night provided by debutant Mark Bennett as he makes his transition from unlicensed to professional boxing.
The Doncaster puncher, who only had his first fight aged 27, will make his pro bow against Hungarian Ferenc Zsalek (21-61-6).
The former unlicensed champion, trained by Michael White at the Fighting Fit Gym in Dinnington, plans to reach the top-10 as soon as possible.
Two more debutants fill the card with seven-time Yorkshire amateur champion Sonny Boy Price pitted against Stockport’s Jamie Quinn (3-47-2); and ex-army boxing champion Chris Reyes starting his paid career against Margate’s Ricky Leach (3-22-1).
Doncaster welterweight Ryan Stevenson (1-0) will be looking to double his win tally against Lithuanian Arvydas Tryzno (26-70-3) who will celebrate a centenary of fights on the night.
Nottingham’s Omari Grant (2-0) wants a hat trick of wins on his record to end 2017 with but he will have his hands full with the experienced Youssef Al Hamidi (14-114-3).
